한국 천주교 주교회의 의장 강우일 주교는 2011년 3월 11일 일본에서 발생한 대지진 피해와 관련하여, 3월 14일 일본 주교회의 의장  레오 준 이케나가 대주교에게 위로 전문을 보냈습니다.

Your Excellency,

In the name of all Korean Catholics we the Bishops of Korea wish to express our profound sorrow and sympathy at the tragic affects of Japan's major earthquake and consequent tsunamis, and pray for all the victims and their families especially of Miyagi-ken. 

May the Lord of Mercy comfort and strengthen them and give them new hope in this hour of untold suffering.
We wish also to express our solidarity in a concrete form of assistance, all too modest in the face of the magnitude of the calamity, to be disposed of at your discretion.

존경하는 일본 주교회의 의장 레오 준 이케나가 대주교님께,

저희 한국 주교들은 한국의 모든 가톨릭 신자들을 대표하여 대지진과 그에 따른 쓰나미로 비극적인 피해를 입은 일본에 깊은 애도와 함께 위로를 전하며, 특히 미야기현을 비롯한 모든 지역의 희생자들과 그 가족들을 위하여 기도합니다.

자비로우신 주님께서 말로 표현할 수 없는 극심한 고통을 겪는 이들에게 위로와 힘을 주시고 새로운 희망을 북돋아주시도록 기도합니다. 또한 저희는 엄청난 규모의 재난에 대처하기에는 매우 약소하지만, 필요한 곳에 도움이 될 수 있도록 실질적 원조로 우리의 연대를 표하고자 합니다.

우리의 형제애와 지속적인 협력을 약속하며 은총을 빕니다.
